The 16th annual festival takes place in Brussels February 5 to 16, 1997, at three film complexes in the city center. The event provides ‘a non-competitive framework for the newest and most interesting works in animation.’

While the festival specializes in short independent animation and personal feature films, it also shows kids films, plus computer-generated images and multi-media applications. Film premieres, retrospectives, exhibitions, backstage reportages and special guests are also an integral part of the event.

Previous festivals have attracted over 30,000 film professionals and members of the general public. Five feature films and 20 shorts that previewed at the 1996 event went on to theatrical release.

Organizers have set up a trilingual Web site (English, French and Dutch) with a copy of the catalogue, previous posters and Wolf’s Gazette, a journal co-published by the Brussels Cartoon and Animated Film Festival and Folioscope. The Internet version of the gazette contains articles and a list of Belgian animated productions.

The festival is supported by Belgian Television (RTBF) and Canal+.
