Warner Home Video is turning to the Internet to turn on consumers to the new digital video disc (DVD) format for home videos. The company, which rolled out DVD releases to retailers in late March (see ‘Digital format makes its retail debut’ in KidScreen’s March 1997 issue, page R1), has launched a Web site dedicated to the platform. The site (www.dvdwb.com) details the history, features and benefits of DVD, and showcases Warner’s upcoming and existing DVD offerings. Visitors to the site can search for products by name, actor, genre, director, release year and rating. Once they’ve found a title that interests them, they can check out a synopsis, cast and crew lists, screen shots and audio and video clips. And if they’d like to buy the video, they can locate retailers in their area that sell DVD products. Warner plans to feature its full video library on the site in the future.
