The first ‘open channel’ for children started in Gera, Germany on September 2. Produced in the studios of Kinderkanal, the new non-commercial initiative allows kids ages six to 16 to create their own TV programs there, and hopefully glean a better understanding of the media in the process. 50,000 households receive it via cable once a week.
