*After a disappointing theatrical release last Thanksgiving, Babe: Pig in the City is ready to try to bring home the bacon at sell-through. On May 4, Universal Studios Home Video will release VHS (US$22.98, SRP) and DVD (US$29.98, SRP) versions of the talking pig sequel. So far, Aunt Jemima Frozen Breakfast Products (frozen breakfast products), The Jel Sert Company (fruit drinks, popsicles) and Sound Source (educational software) have signed on as promotional partners. Universal’s ad campaign for the home video release of the movie will cover all major media and is set to kick off on April 18.

*A Bug’s Life on home video (US$26.99) and DVD (US$34.99) is set to swarm retail on April 20. The pre-book date for DVD and video is March 9. Buena Vista Home Entertainment will issue five collectors edition covers of the video, each featuring a character-Flik, Heimlich, Dot, Francis or Hopper-from the Disney/Pixar CGI pic. BHVE is mounting a massive ad campaign for the release, which will extend its feelers into all major media, with an emphasis on print. Promotional partners so far confirmed for Bug’s are Lever 2000 (soap), Kid Cuisine (frozen foods) and See & Ski Kids (suntan lotion). Other Disney movies heading for sell-through include: Mighty Joe Young on March 23, Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue in June, a reissue of Beauty and the Beast in August, Madeline: Lost In Paris on August 3, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Holiday and two other Christmas-themed titles starring Disney’s number one mouse, all to be released in the fall.
