One of the best-known names in British kids TV, Joan Lofts, has quit her job as head of programs and acquisitions at Disney Channel UK.

Head of creative Amelia Johnson has also resigned-having joined the channel just six months earlier at Loft’s behest. The two women previously worked together at Flextech-owned channels TCC (now closed) and Trouble.

The dual departure follows the December appointment of Paul Robinson as managing director-with overall responsibility for programming and marketing.

No clear reason has been given for the double departure, but Disney claims that the split was amicable. A spokesman says: ‘Joan Lofts has left to pursue new challenges. We are grateful for all her hard work and wish her the best for the future.’

Robinson’s appointment came as a surprise to observers, given that his experience to date has primarily been in the radio business. Lofts, on the other hand, has been a dedicated kids specialist for the duration of her career.

At press time, Robinson has not replaced Lofts, though he does intend to find a replacement. Johnson’s role has been assumed by James Neal.
