Mattel plans to purchase girls entertainment producer Purple Moon. News of Mattel’s intention to buy the Mountain View, California-based company comes barely a month after Purple Moon closed down operations, due to consolidation in the software industry. Purple Moon marks the latest addition to Mattel’s ever-expanding roster, which has been beefed up by acquisitions of the Pleasant Company last June and The Learning Company in December.
