Genevieve Dexter heads up the U.K. office of the Sydney-based prodco as director of co-productions and acquisitions, and her mission in her new position is to expand its development slate. ‘The main issue is setting up as a fully operational London office, rather than just as a satellite office to Sydney,’she says.

Over the next few months, Dexter is on the lookout for North American partners. ‘We’ve been very much involved in the European production scene,’ she says, referring to two productions in development now-half-hour series Wicked!, scheduled for delivery in September 2000, and feature film The Magic Pudding, for which a spin-off TV series is in development. Specifically, Dexter is shopping around for book-based properties, indie projects, projects from other studios, along with locally produced Energee fare.

‘We specialize in 2-D, but that’s not to say [prospective projects] couldn’t be in a mixed-media format,’ Dexter explains. Dexter says Energee has been focusing on the eight to 12 set of late, and are consequently looking for preschool and teen-related properties, ‘to hold a broad portfolio.’ While Energee specializes in Australasia and U.K. properties, Dexter doesn’t think the company is restricted by those boundaries. ‘I’m not constrained within any particular deal structure-I can either be picking up rights we can handle for other territories, right through to our home-grown products and taking them through to completion. I’m able to operate in a wide field,’ Dexter says.

Most recently, Dexter was at Link, where she was head of sales and acquisitions for two years. Prior to that, she worked at Eva Entertainment where she was sales manager. gdexter@apple-uk.net
