Burger King to offer a
Pokémon a day
Burger King is hooking in to the November 12 release of 4Kids Entertainment’s Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back by releasing a different pocket monster premium each day of a Kids Meal promo kicking off in late November. Valued at about US$20 million, the QSR promo will include six different Poké-plush for about US$1.99 each, along with the daily premiums. Support includes national TV, print and radio ads.
GM launches Bugs-mobile
Warner Bros. Consumer Products and General Motors have entered into a four-year marketing partnership valued at US$200 million, kicking off with Bugs Bunny-branded minivans. The deal gives GM first-look at all promotional opportunities arising from divisions such as Warner Bros. Films, The WB Network, Warner Bros. Studio Stores and Warner Music. GM has already unveiled a Chevy Venture Warner Bros. Edition minivan emblazoned with a silver Bugs Bunny and WB logo. The van comes complete with a three-year ‘VentureTainment’ package offering buyers free Warner videos and CDs, as well as discounts at Studio Stores, sneak previews of WB movies and early access to Six Flags theme parks.
McD lines up tie-ins for 2000
McDonald’s is marking the first year of the new millennium (and the fourth year of its 10-year alliance with Disney) with several feature tie-ins and a national ad campaign promoting the Disney Cruise Line. The burger giant plans to tie in to Disney’s CGI flick Dinosaur, slated for a May 31, 2000 release, an unnamed live-action film coming out in July and Disney’s Kingdom of the Sun, slated for a holiday 2000 release. McDonald’s will also bring back premiums based on Hasbro’s Furby starting March 24, and Teenie Beanie Babies will reappear for the fourth year in a row starting June 16.

Sony Wonder and Sunbow Productions are roping in a slew of new promotional partners to push Sunbow/Ravensburger co-pro Brothers Flub. The promotion peaks with a KFC QSR program running January through February 2000 and offering six different premiums with Kids Meals. The QSR deal follows a back-to-school ‘Sketchers Brothers Flub Walkin’ and Talkin’ Sweepstakes,’ hosted by Macy’s stores across the U.S. Free 10-minute Brothers Flub calling card key chains are currently on offer with the purchase of any Sketchers merchandise. Activation of the cards automatically enters consumers in an instant-win sweepstakes featuring Flub and Sketchers product prizes. Hansen’s Juice joined in mid-August with an on-pack Brothers Flub sweepstakes, and General Nutrition Centers stores are offering free Brothers Flub yo-yos with GNC Kids Vitamins.
