John Adams, former head of Dorling Kindersley’s television arm DK Vision, has parted company with his U.S.-based business partner Brenda Wooding. At MIPCOM, he will commence trading as John Adams Television.
In recent years, Adams and Wooding have developed and produced numerous international versions of preschool titles Animal Alphabet and Animal Numbers under the Adams Wooding banner. However, following Wooding’s recent marriage and relocation to Chicago, the two agreed to pursue separate paths.
As head of his stand-alone company, Adams says he will concentrate on developing and producing shows-rather than the time-consuming business of distributing them. He is currently discussing potential link-ups with distribution specialists. Adams comes to MIPCOM with a slate of projects at various
stages of development. The recently completed Animal Numbers has brought together the same partners that participated on Animal Alphabet. These include co-producer Partridge, Time Life, Disney, Channel 4 UK and VCI.
In addition Adams is looking to raise the last tranche of cash for his epic 13-part futuristic natural history series The Future Is Wild. Deals with TLC and ZDF have taken Adams 70% of the way to the US$5 million budget. He is now toying with the idea of selling shares in the multimedia exploitation of the property to private individuals.
At MIPCOM, he will also commence discussions on a new preschool animation concept called Beach Babies, about babies with attitude. The idea is being co-developed with 4:2:2 Videographics in Bristol which also helped Adams develop models for The Future is Wild.
