Warner Bros., in partnership with franchisee TEW, S.A. de C.V., will open a second WB Studio Store in Mexico sometime in early Q1 of next year, according to a source at Warner Bros. Consumer Products division. The 3,700-square-foot store will be located in Mexico City at a site that neither WB nor TEW has yet to make public.
WB and TEW opened the first Studio store in Cancun late last month, marking WB’s initial foray into retailing in Latin America, a territory that has taken on more importance for the company recently. In terms of licensed Warner Bros. character merchandise sales, Latin America is ranked third, behind Europe and the U.S. respectively, says Mark Matheny, executive VP of International Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Although he wouldn’t provide a number, Matheny says WB plans to open more stores in Mexico and possibly other Latin American countries within the next year. SA
