This month, KidScreen kudos for the most unusual contributions to the world of merchandise go to two trendy licenses targeting teens.
The Licensing Company gives Condomania `poetic license’ to create a line of collectible condoms based on Purple Ronnie, a popular U.K. character known for his lewd greeting card ditties. As well, The Licensing Company recently signed a deal with South Park property owner Comedy Central to allow Condomania to use the faces of Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny and Chef on a new line of condoms that will be available exclusively in the U.K.
Artisan Entertainment has awarded costume manufacturer Disguise the rights to the Blair Witch franchise. Halloween 2000 allowed teens to see the world through the eyes of Rustin Parr in a vinyl face mask based on the Blair Witch character accused of murdering Burkittsville children. For Halloween 2001, Disguise will revisit the 18th century with costumes based on the garments of Elly Kedward (of the Blair Witch mythology).
