Fox Kids has high hopes for a DIC Entertainment series hitting the air this fall just weeks after its predecessor, feature film Evolution, debuts in July. DIC has picked up the animation rights to the release starring David Duchovny and Orlando Jones, and is producing 26 half hours in association with DreamWorks and Ivan Reitman’s The Montecito Picture Company. It’s an adventure-comedy much along the lines of Reitman’s Ghostbusters franchise, but this time, the heroes must battle a fast-evolving alien organism that threatens life on Earth. The series will kick off on Saturdays in September.

What’s With Andy?, a show based on an Australian book series that’s being considered for launch as early as summer on Fox Kids or Fox Family, revolves around the escapades of a 13-year-old prankster. ‘Imagine Tom Green in junior high,’ says Joel Andryc, executive VP of kids programming and development for Fox Family Channel and Fox Kids Network. The show is being produced by Ciné-Groupe.

Also on the slate for Fox Family in late summer is a ‘whimsical comedy’ that Andryc describes as ‘Charlie’s Angels with a little bit of Clueless.’ Totally Spies features three high school girls who find themselves pulled out of class and trips to the mall to fight espionage. The series, produced by Paris-based Marathon, takes cues from Japanese animation, and will debut on Saturdays.

The Evolution spin-off, What’s With Andy? and Totally Spies are all done in traditional cel animation in a 26 x half-hour format.

On the live-action front, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen star as teen sisters of separated and very different parents, with mom a high-powered fashion exec and dad a laid-back bohemian. The twins’ Dualstar Productions is producing 26 half hours for fall launch on Fox Family.

As well, Spumco’s The Ripping Friends will debut in May on Fox Kids, Nelvana’s Braceface as early as June on Fox Family, and Happy Life’s Da Mob this fall on Fox Kids or Fox Family.
