Can Bob build a radio station? (Yes, he can!)

Moving onto a different kind of airwave entirely, Bob the Builder, Barney and a few other HIT Entertainment character brands will form the content backbone of a new digital radio service for kids. Children’s Radio UK (or CRUK in radio shorthand) pairs HIT up with radio conglomerate GWR Group and the founder of abracaDABra!, an existing children’s radio program in London, England. The service will feature sing-a-longs, educational programming and kid-friendly pop music, and it debuts in April on DAB digital multiplexes serving London, Essex, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Bristol, Avon and Dorset. An application has also been made for a Manchester FM license. HIT and GWR Group each have a 47.5% stake in the station, while abracaDABra creator Susan Stranks, a former radio presenter, holds the remaining 4%.

Pokémon eats fresh with Subway

Sandwich giant Subway has hooked up with Pokémon for the first time to run a Kids Pak Meal deal from March 28 to May 8 in more than 18,000 U.S. restaurants. The promotion encompasses four different premium toys, including Deoxys Whirl (a bouncing ball with a tail), Crazy Pokéball (a magnetized ball that moves in crazy directions), a Pokémon lacrosse stick and a Frisbee-like Rayquaza Disc. This deal represents a switch in strategy for Pokémon USA, which has focused its QSR business on Burger King and Wendy’s until now.
