Current players in the U.K. kidsnet scene will have to squeeze over to make a little more room for Cartoon Network’s fourth kid-targeted channel, Cartoon Network Too. Acting as a bridge between the new programs airing on CN and the classic shows that are broadcast on Boomerang, Cartoon Too will delve into the Turner library for titles from the not-so-distant past to fill its schedule, such as Dexter’s Laboratory and PowerPuff Girls. ‘These are hugely popular shows that just don’t get the airtime on Cartoon Network anymore because we continue to show newer programming,’ Dominic Gardiner, director of programming at Cartoon Network UK explains.
Turner is currently in negotiations with cable and satellite companies in the U.K. to carry the channel for a Q4 2006 transmit. In the meantime, the CN team is playing with a brandable look for the channel and plotting marketing campaigns that will reintroduce these almost classic series to its intended six to eight year old demo.
