Two major broadcasters are trying to catch a little heat from the MMOG fire that has been raging in the adult gaming space over the past few years, thanks to titles like World of Warcraft.

Toronto, Canada-based Corus Entertainment and Nickelodeon’s The N are launching MMOGs The Big Rip and Trendetta, which are both designed to let users play games, interact and customize characters in a monitored online environment.

Corus’s entry thebigrip.com was first covered in the November/December issue of KidScreen and features a world called GalaXseeds. The virtual environment allows users, dubbed Seedizens, to join one of four clans and compete to save the universe. Its creators promise GalaXseeds is just one of many virtual worlds being developed. In the pipeline are branded worlds that will utilize on-air animated characters and original animation.

The N’s Trendetta launches on Monday, and will skew towards the teen demographic. The site has online chat functionality, user-generated content apps and game play that lets users battle each other to determine tomorrow’s fashion trends, today. The top players will try to out-trend each other, with the winners earning a place in the Trendetta Hall of Fame. The game can be entered through www.the-n.com.
