Despite reports that watching streaming video via cell phones has yet to catch on with North Americans, Buena Vista International Television and Sony Pictures Television International have inked content deals with Bell Canada to feed its new Mobile Movies platform.

It’s Disney’s first mobile licensing agreement for full-length movies outside of the US, and a clear sign that it wants to make mobile work in a market where it has thus far been stymied. Mobile Movies is also the first service of its kind in Canada.

The pay-per-view movies will be streamed directly to video-capable cell phones over Bell’s high-speed network. Users can access the movies via Bell software downloaded from its website, and then browse movie information including plot summaries and trailers before ordering. The phones will have DVD-like playback with full play, pause, fast-forward and rewind capability.

The content deals are expected to give customers access to new releases and library titles, and the pricetag will be US$5.15 to download for a limited time ranging between 24 hours and a week, depending on the title.
