L.A. toyco Jakks Pacific announced a fourth-quarter net sales increase of 43.3% over the same period in 2005 as it released its earnings this morning.

Despite the hoopla that’s been building around the youth electronics category over the past year, Jakks CEO Jack Friedman pointed to strong performances in traditional categories including dress-up, role play, action figures, dolls and plush as driving the Q4 bump to US$26.9 million in net income.

Year-end numbers are almost as rosy, with net sales hitting US$765.4 million (up 15.7% over 2005), while net income for 2006 should be roughly US$72.4 million, compared to US$63.5 million in 2005.

For 2007, the company is looking to licensed deals with Pokemon, Hannah Montana, The Cheetah Girls and Dora The Explorer to propel growth.
