According to a new report from DFC Intelligence called The Market for Portable Video Games, worldwide revenue from the portable game systems manufactured by Nintendo and Sony is expected to exceed US$10 billion in 2007. The San Diego, California-based researcher notes the platform bringing in the most lucre is the Nintendo DS, which analyst David Cole says could be ‘the best-selling interactive entertainment platform ever.’

The report also states that while the PSP’s current position is strong at number two, its future will depend on Sony’s dedication to the portable platform, as opposed to promoting and developing its PS3 console.

Third-party publishers and game developers will also stand to benefit from the growing market, as there will be a constant demand for new titles in the coming years.
