Effective today Michael Goldsmith, former director of Canadian broadcast sales and promotion at Nelvana, takes over at Toronto, Canada kidcaster Teletoon as its new director of original content.

The move comes after long-time director of original production for Teletoon Madeleine Levesque’s departed in February to join Toronto, Canada-based 9 Story Entertainment as executive VP.

In his new role, Goldsmith will be in charge of commissions and already has a keen eye on making sure any new productions take a 360-degree approach.

‘What we are hoping to do is build-in the multiplatform aspects of each show and redefine what original content means,’ says Goldsmith. ‘We want to grow mobile, VOD, gaming and online. The challenge will be to make the content interactive and accessible.’

The first order of business will be to develop new shows for the net’s adult-skewing evening Detour block and to integrate the commissions and acquisition departments.
