Bristol, England’s Aardman Features is in final negotiations on a three-year first-look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The proposed agreement reflects SPE’s strategy to expand its animation and family features output and complement its existing cache of family films, which includes last year’s Open Season and this summer’s CGI flick Surf’s Up.
Aardman COO Stephen Moore says the deal would trigger a significant expansion of the company’s development/production slate.
Aardman is best known for full-length stop-motion features Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Chicken Run, produced in conjunction with DreamWorks. The two studios ended their exclusive partnership late last year after Aardman’s CGI movie Flushed Away failed to meet box office expectations.
