The webbed one's third flick has set a new benchmark for opening weekends, raking in US$148 million in its first three days in theaters. The previous record was held by Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which took in US$135.6 million with its debut last summer.

The webbed one’s third flick has set a new benchmark for opening weekends, raking in US$148 million in its first three days in theaters.

The previous record was held by Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which took in US$135.6 million with its debut last summer.

The latest instalment of the Spidey franchise had a leg-up in the race since it opened in an unprecedented 4,253 theaters across North America. With a one-day gross of US$59.3 million on Friday, the flick also set a new record for opening-day box office revenues.
