Oak Brook, Illinois-based toyco RC2 Corporation is delving further into the infant product market with its acquisition of Compass, a maker of infant and toddler travel gear. The move marks RC2’s entrée into the category. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Best known for its folding toddler booster car seat sold primarily at US specialty retail outlets, King Mills, Ohio-based Compass has recently developed an infant travel system that includes an integrated infant car seat and light-weight stroller. Compass president and co-founder John Riedl will take a post at RC2.
Compass should be a good fit with RC2’s portfolio of infant and toddler products, which include several licensed toy lines based on properties such as Thomas & Friends, Bob the Builder and Sesame Street. So far 2007 is looking good for the toyco; Q1 2007 sales were up approximately 11% to $112.6 million compared to 2006 numbers for the same period.
