As questions about the sustainability of the DVD market sweep through the industry, The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films announced the launch of not one, but three new direct-to-DVD labels today. Most important for KidScreen peeps is family-oriented Kaleidoscope. Genius Products will distribute Kaleidoscope programming that will include animated DTV and theatrical features, TV series and specials. And Barry Gordon, EVP of home entertainment at TWC, will oversee the labels and is looking to both acquire and produce projects to feed the new pipelines.
As for what’s ready to roll out from Kaleidoscope, expect to see a CGI version of The Nutty Professor, featuring voiceovers by original film creator Jerry Lewis; Unstable Fables, an animated Jim Henson Company series based on classics tales like The Three Little Pigs; and the DTV sequel to last year’s CGI theatrical Hoodwinked, Hoodwinked 2: Hood vs. Evil.
