Who better than a famed football star (aka soccer Stateside) to promote Alphanim’s futuristic sports toon Galactik Football? Well, that was the inspired thinking behind Jetix Consumer Products Europe’s latest Italian promotional deal for the property.

JCP and partner Bigberry have lined up Italian National Team hotshot Fabio Cannavaro to endorse GF and grace the DVD packaging of eps that will piggyback the cover of top-ranking sports mag Gazzetta dello Sport in the spring.

The daily magazine currently has a circulation of more than 335,000, and two episodes from the toon’s first season, and some original GF content produced by Bigberry, will be included in each DVD of the planned series that will be affixed to the magazine’s cover over a number of issues.

The plan is to extend this unique promotion to include the second season of the series, and perhaps into other territories, by bringing other football stars on-board in the coming months. Yoo hoo, Mr. Beckham…are you listening?
