Hi folks,
It’s the first time I’ve been to MIPCOM and had the phrase ‘the market’ mean something much more than just this little enclave of Cannes that hosts our business twice a year. But it looks like the global economic crisis has hit bottom and started to rebound, and that’s been buoying news for everyone here over the last couple of days. In terms of scuttlebutt, word on the street is that Nigel Stone at Platinum Films has got a hot commodity on his hands with 26 x half-hour animated comedy Mad Hatter’s Chronicles, and I hear that long-time preschool animation player Tony Collingwood is trying his hand at a live-action property that is generating some heat amongst buyers.
In social circles, Joan Lofts’ send-off last night was very touching, with the lady of the hour quite overwhelmed by the massive industry turnout. She was unfortunately thwarted in her attempts to find a disco for a last market boogie and had to make do with pizza at Caffe Roma in the wee hours. On my calendar later on is Decode’s famous karaoke night, so I’ve been resting up my vocal chords so I can belt out some best-forgotten ’80s song along with the rest of the boat-bound crowd.
More on that tomorrow…
