It’s been a busy first day at KidScreen Summit this week, as L.A.-based Animax Entertainment announced winners of its Canucks Script Contest, which was open to all Canadian citizens to submit their cartoon scripts to win cash prizes and option deals.

Ryan Cordes and Gerald Thompson nabbed the Top Banana prize for Journey Quest. Their first-place entry earned them a development option with Animax worth roughly US$2,000. Atul N. Rao and Greg van Riel came away with the US$1,200 second-place nod for Bem and Buzzy in ‘Dawn of the Dynamic Deviants’ and Hollis Ludlow-Carroll’s D.V. Productions took the US$800 third-place prize.

The contest also coincided with the launch of Animax’s new Toronto office.
