Rebranded boys net Disney XD has gone into production on its first original movie, sci-fi adventure flick Skyrunners.
Featuring Kelly Blatz, who has the title role on XD’s flagship series Aaron Stone, the film also has New Zealand’s Weta Workshop on board to provide the special effects.
Skyrunners follows two teen brothers who discover a UFO that crashes near their town, and when they realize that the spacecraft is ‘alive,’ one of them develops superhuman abilities and is captured by the aliens.
The film, produced by Ranger Productions and Shaftesbury Services II, is directed by Ralph Hemecker (Numb3rs) and written by Richard C. Okie (Quantum Leap and Earth: Final Conflict) with Adam Wilson and Melanie Wilson.
