Owly takes flight
Andy Runton’s super-cute kid graphic novel series Owly, from publisher Top Shelf Productions, drew enough interest from Sprite Animation Studios to make the wise young bird and his flexible friend Wormy the stars of a 3-D animated short that debuted at Comic-Con in July. Simon & Schuster is also on-board to publish two Owly picture books in 2011.
Zubbles, Zubbles everywhere
They said it couldn’t be done, but inventor Tim Kehoe proved naysayers wrong by making the world’s first colored, non-toxic and non-staining bubbles. Goodbyn for the enviro win
It’s the bento of lunch boxes for kids and the environmentally friendly, too. Seattle-based Byndoo set out to create the perfect carrier that didn’t require plastic bags to keep food fresh and separated. The result is Goodbyn, a lunchbox with a cute animal shape and bright colors that should also get kids excited about midday meals. Licensing opps, anyone?
