The service:
Not-for-profit service BARB was established in 1981 as a television audience measurement service for broadcasters and the advertising industry. BARB is owned by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Five, BSkyB and the IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising). BARB commissions research services, including audience viewing figures, on its behalf from companies including RSMB, Ipsos MORI, AGB Nielsen Media Research and TNS.
