Toronto-based 9 Story Entertainment is teaming up with Just for Laughs to co-produce kids comedy series Standup4Kidz (working title). Based on a concept optioned from Big Hug Productions, the 26 x 11-minute series will see a number of comedians bringing their family-friendly humor to the small screen in a blend of animation and live performances.
Universal Music Belgium and Flemish pubcaster VRT have teamed up to launch Uki. Also the Pitch It! winner from KidScreen Summit 2008, 52 eps of the 3-D CGI preschool series is slated to debut on VRT’s children’s channel Ketnet in April 2010. Uki targets kids one to four and will also be extended to an interactive game environment.
Canuck prodco Sardine Productions has inked an exclusive agreement with cartoonist Guillermo Mordillo to develop a news series of animated shorts. The two-minute non-verbal shorts will be in 3-D and will be based on Mordillo’s humorous works, which will translate across all media.
JV preschool channel JimJam has picked up Baby Antonio’s Circus from The Wiggles Production. Created by the team behind Aussie kids entertainers The Wiggles, the new preschool series will hit the airwaves in December across all JimJam feeds, which is in more than 50 countries and 10 different languages.
Shaftesbury Films has sold season one of its live-action series Connor Undercover to ABC TV Australia and Daro, for central and eastern Europe and English-speaking Africa. The half-hour comedy series follows a teenage spy buff who’s ordinary life is transformed when the first daughter of a small island nation shows up to live with his family. Connor is co-produced by Shaftesbury and Heroic Film Company and was commissioned by Family Channel.
