Syfy Kids, the TV and online destination’s youth-targeted banner, has announced two new partnerships with Albie Hecht’s Worldwide Biggies and game publisher THQ.
Along with Worldwide Biggies, the two will launch transmedia property Dr. What. The mystery-adventure series revolves around the thrill-seeking digital life creator J. Howard What.
Alan Seiffert, SVP of Syfy Venture, will manage the relationship between the companies, which will introduce the IP through six animated shorts premiering on the net and Syfy.com, and viewers can then go online and play out a customized Dr. What adventure through Worldwide Biggies’ proprietary GameToon tech. The best viewer creations will then be featured in a TV special to be aired on Syfy.
Meanwhile, Syfy’s alliance with THQ will see the two creating and publishing original concepts and IPs across all major media platforms. The deal will aloso see them developing vidgame franchises into multi-platform properties, and THQ’s game IP de Blob will serve as a key foundation for Syfy Kids.
de Blob splashed on the vidgame scene in 2008, revolving around the titular character who must color the world and free the citizens from a black and white future. Syfy will initially focus development efforts on webisodes, TV and consumer products, while THQ moves forward with plans to publish new games across multiple gaming platforms in its fiscal year ending March 31, 2011.
