British Animation Awards shortlist announced

The British Animation Awards (BAAs) finalists have been announced for both the juried categories and the publicly-voted Children's Choice award.

The British Animation Awards (BAAs) finalists have been announced for both the juried categories and the publicly-voted Children’s Choice award.

Aardman Animations is in the lead in the television category with four finalist nods, including best animated special for Matter of Loaf & Death, best children’s series for Shaun the Sheep and for both Matter of Loaf & Death and Shaun the Sheep inthe Children’s Choice category.

Chapman Entertainment has two pole positions for Roary the Racing Car in the best preschool series and Children’s Choice categories. Studio A.K.A, meanwhile, garnered two nods for best animated special with Varmints and Lost and Found. And Blue Zoo Productions has final places in best preschool and best children’s series categories for Stitch up Showdown and My Favourite Bedtime Stories.

The Oscar-nominated The Secret of Kells from Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon is the only English-language film to make it into the final for best European animated feature with French-language films Lascars (Round da Way, France) and Panique au Village (A Town Called Panic, Belgium) taking the other two positions.

The award will be presented on April 8 at the British Film Institute in London.
