India’s Team Chargers has snagged the winning title in the first Asia Pacific Cartoon Network Toon Cup free-to-play online football tournament.
Team Chargers was victorious over its Philippines counterpart, after beating 14 other teams to reach the final round. The finals saw representatives from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Since the March launch of Toon Football, which allows young users to create their own Cartoon Network-themed avatar, team up with others and compete in the online space, more than 2,000 matches have taken place with more than 165,000 avatars and roughly 120,000 teams created. Overall, a new avatar and team were built every minute across the Asia-Pacific region. Toon Football will now be made available year-round to allow kids to start training for next year’s tournament.
In addition to the Cartoon Network Asia Pacific Toon Cup title, each member of the winning team will receive a Nintendo Wii Sports Resort Bundle and an Amazon Kindle e-Book Reader.
