Five short films from France, UK, Norway, Sweden and Estonia are set to compete for the Cartoon d’Or 2010, the pan-European award for the best animated short film of the year at Cartoon Forum, which takes place in Sopron, Hungary between September 14 and 17.

The finalists were chosen from 29 prize-winning films from European animation festivals over the past year. The jury has nominated A Family Portrait by Joseph Pierce, UK, Krokodill by Kaspar Jancis, Estonia, Logorama from H5 inFrance, Sinna Mann by Norway’s Anita Killi and The Tale of Little Puppetboy by Sweden’s Johannes Nyholm in Sweden.

The winner will be announced at Cartoon Forum. The directors of each nominated short will present his or her film to other players in European animation, providing them an opportunity to strengthen their ties with the industry. The winner is set to receive a trophy together with a financial aid of US $12,500, thanks to the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union.

In 2009, Irish director David O’Reilly won the Cartoon d’Or award for his short film Please Say Something.
