Shockwave, an online gaming division of the Nickelodeon Kids and Family Games Group digital portfolio, is launching a virtual goods platform that introduces a new virtual currency and deeper layer of gameplay.

Using the new Shockwave Cash, players can purchase items to boost performance and personalize gameplay across a range of Shockwave’s free online games.

The Shockwave virtual goods launch kicks off with the release of three new titles: Hungry Hungry Hippy, Let’s Get Grillin’ and Sara’s Super Spa Me. The introduction of Shockwave Cash, combined with the rollout of Shockwave’s achievement system for token and trophy awards last year, opens the door for more engaging experiences for players and more diversified revenue opportunities for game developers.

The new platform follows Nickelodeon’s May launch of AddictingGames virtual goods and the company’s recent acquisition of Social Express, a social gaming development company.
