activeTV Australia has started production on 39 half-hour episodes of the second season of the Australian format of Apartment 11’s kid’s reality series Prank Patrol.
L.A.-based indie producer and distributor MarVista Entertainment will debut the new episodes at this year’s MIPCOM Jr.
For the new season of Prank Patrol, which involves a host, his sidekick ninjas and guest experts helping kids pull off pranks on an unsuspecting friend or family member, activeTV will produce 13 of the eps based around entirely original pranks created by the Australian production team. The remaining 26 half-hours will be adapted from the best of the existing Canadian and UK versions. Prank Patrol 2, which is to be filmed in Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, will boast higher production values, more stunts, bigger special FX and a diverse range of Aussie locations.
activeTV acquired the Australian rights to Prank Patrol in October 2009 from MarVista Entertainment, the series’ exclusive worldwide distributor. The first season of the Australian version currently airs on the new digital kids channel ABC 3 and on ABC 1. The series received Production investment funding from Film Victoria and Screen Queensland.
Created by Canadian-based Apartment 11 Productions, the original Prank Patrol series has been a long running favorite on YTV Canada with a total of 100 episodes available for the international market.
