Market research firm The NPD Group has released a US toy industry sales update that shows the total industry booked US$21.48 billion for the 12 months ended August 2010, up from last year’s postings of US$21.39 billion.
The outdoor & sports toys category was among those with sales increases for the period, rising from US$2.58 billion to US$2.66billion, with dolls, building sets and arts & crafts also experiencing marginal gains. According to the report, the top five properties for the 12 months ended were Barbie, Crayola, Disney Princess, Star Wars and Transformers. Additionally, the top five growing properties are Crayola, Moxie Girls, Nerf, Toy Story and Zhu Zhu Pets.
