At this year’s Mipcom currently underway in Cannes, France, Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) has announced that two of its MSC Malaysia-status companies have secured international co-production deals to produce kids’ properties Kung Fu Chicken and Red, Yellow & Blue.

Animasia Studio (Malaysia), Agogo International (Hong Kong) and Neptuno Films (Spain) will co-produce the 2-D animated action-adventure series Kung Fu Chicken (26 x 22-minutes), which follows a kung fu-style protection agency serving the residents of an island filled with chaos, mayhem and a lot of birds.

Animated preschool series Red, Yellow & Blue (52 x 11-minutes), meanwhile, will be co-developed and co-produced by Ed-Online Technologies (Malaysia), Scrawl Studios (Singapore) and Bryant Whittle (UK). The series follows the adventures of three rabbits, the Colour Squad Bunnies, who live in Rainbow Land. The producers are also partnering with a publisher to produce a series of interactive eBooks for the global market.

Additionally, three MSC Malaysia-status companies have signed distribution deals for the Latin American and Hispanic market. Creative animation studio Animasia Studio, 2-D and 3-D animation specialist Backbone Entertainment and 3-D animation experts Les’ Copaque have each signed distribution deals with Latin Media Corporation (US).

The deals will see Latin Media Corporation distributing programmes such as ABC Monsters, Jinggo and Beanos.
