Global children’s publishing, education and media company Scholastic has introduced a new early childhood curriculum that will bring current research about early learning to pre-Kindergarten classrooms across the US.

The Scholastic Big Day for PreK curriculum aims to ensure that all children, including English-language learners and those of varying socio-economic levels, build the academic and social-emotional foundations they need to succeed in Kindergarten.

The curriculum, developed by a team of early childhood education experts, is heavily influenced by the findings of Developing Early Literacy, the 2009 report of the National Early Literacy Panel. As such, the curriculum is based on Five Big Elements of Success that include: a focus on daily big experiences that integrate academic, social-emotional and physical development; meaningful conversations that help children build oral language and vocabulary; children’s literature and non-fiction texts in a variety of genres and formats that are read aloud and independently and accessed through Scholastic’s BookFlix; innovative technology for teachers and parents that empowers them with resources and assessment and planning tools and a comprehensive program with total equity in English and Spanish that support dual-language classrooms.
