Looking to make martyrs the new vampires, Hodder Children’s Books has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Tonya Hurley’s new paranormal romance trilogy The Blessed. Its publication is set to run simultaneously with Simon & Schuster US’s printing in spring 2012.

Drawing on the legends of the female martyrs of early Christendom, Hurley’s modern-day trilogy follows three Brooklyn teenagers, Lucy, Cecelia and Agnes, who are all rebels plagued by broken hearts and broken dreams. They meet Sebastian, a bad boy-type who gifts each of them with a ruby-beaded chaplet and then disappears into the night. (Look out Edward Cullen.)

Hurley is the bestselling author of the Ghost Girl sequence.
