BBC Vision director Jana Bennett is making the move to BBC Worldwide as president of Worldwide Networks and Global iPlayer.
In the new role, she’ll be looking after BBC Worldwide’s wholly owned BBC-branded channels and its 50% shareholding in UKTV. Also part of her remit is building the market for the Global iPlayer, part of BBC Worldwide’s multi-platform distribution strategy for delivering British TV content internationally that’s due to pilot next year.
Bennett, who takes the role in February 2011, will be charged with driving international growth and editorial stewardship of the 40-channel portfolio, including CBeebies.
A board director for UKTV since 2002, Bennett has previously worked as director of BBC Television and then director of BBC Vision. She has also launched BBC HD, BBC One HD and has been responsible for delivering multiplatform content across television, broadband and mobile platforms.
Bennett’s division was also heavily involved in the launch of the BBC iPlayer. The iPlayer will initially launch on the iPad platform and provide a VOD service with catch-up capability and contemporary and classic content. The BBC will be adopting a sole paid subscription model for the Global iPlayer at launch, and will be offering advertisers the chance to partner on the ‘free’ areas of the service.
