Spin Master and Zodiak Kids/Marathon Media have sold their first co-production Redakai: Conquer The Kairu to Cartoon Network US.
The 52 x 26-minute animated boys action series is about Ky, a 15-year-old student of ancient martial arts who quests to find the primordial energy force known as the Kairu, is slated to air on CN in the second half of this year.
Spin Master is set to roll out an original trading card game and line of toys soon after the series’ broadcast debut and Cartoon Network Enterprises will be handling merch rights for North America, while Zodiak holds worldwide television distribution rights to the series and all licensing and merchandising rights outside Canada and the US.
Also at Spin Master, Will Hackner is taking on the newly created role of creative director of Feature Film Development and Boys Entertainment.
Working from the multi-category entertainment company’s L.A. offices, Hackner will develop Spin Master’s feature film slate. On the TV side, he is charged with overseeing all creative elements of boys’ action properties as they move from development through production.
Hackner hails from DC Entertainment, where he worked on feature films including Red, Green Lantern and Dark Knight, as well as TV series that include Young Justice and Batman: Brave and the Bold.
