The Toronto, Canada-based consortium that recently acquired majority control of Starz Animation Toronto has rebranded the 3D cartoon factory as Arc Productions.
Veteran TV executive producer Steven B. Hecht, who was among the buyers of a majority stake from US media giant Starz Media, said new management will expand Arc Productions’ development slate to include indie productions, more intellectual property and international co-productions.
“Our vision is to continue to pursue partnerships, produce these major, award-winning animated features and leverage Arc’s reputation for CG animation and visual effects in a broader multimedia environment that will include features, television and high-end video game cinematics,” Hecht said in a statement.
Starz Animation Toronto opened its doors in 2007 as a division of Burbank-based Starz Media, before recently coming under Canadian leadership.
The studio’s current slate includes visual effects for the Starz/CBC Camelot series, Robosapien: Rebooted (pictured), a live-action family feature, and Dolphin Tale, an upcoming Warner Brothers release starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd.
Having installed a 3D stereoscopic animation facility, Arc Productions has also started work on the wizard movie with a working title OZ3D for Canadian producer Multiple Media Entertainment.
