Japanese pop culture icon Domo is at the center of a new charity initiative designed to raise funds for earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan.

Big Tent Entertainment has launched a charity initiative with Domo licensees that incorporate jewelry designer Udi Behr’s LOVE + PEACE + HOPE message. The designs will be featured on special edition Domo merchandise from Fifth Sun, Concept One, Hot Properties Merchandising, Music Skins, Coveroo and virtual digital partners WeeMee and Meez.

Proceeds from the specialty products will go to the Japan Society, an American nonprofit organization. All funds contributed to the Japan’s Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund will be given to organizations that directly help victims from the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The internet sensation originated as the mascot for Japanese public broadcaster NHK. Domo has since found a home within the online viral community with hundreds of thousands of fan-made images, websites and videos created and posted to websites such as YouTube, Facebook and Flickr.
