Italy-based Rainbow Studio’s 3D Gladiator spoof, Not born to be Gladiators, has been picked up for distribution byParamount and Medusa, signaling a large step forward for the indie producer.
Paramount Pictures, whose parent company Viacom recently acquired 30% of Rainbow with plans to broadcast future Rainbow TV programming on Nickelodeon, will handle all North American distribution while Medusa is taking care of activity in Italy. The movie is set for a March 2012 release.
Directed by Rainbow founder Iginio Straffi, the 85-minute family film has a US$55 million budget and a script from the writer of A Shark’s Tale (DreamWorks Animation) and Ice Age 2 (Fox), Michael J. Wilson. Rainbow and Paramount are currently in discussion with actors for the voices of the main characters.
