As if his 10.4 million-strong Twitter following wasn’t enough indication, Justin Bieber is considered the hottest topic for kids 14 and under, according to the latest KIDS survey from market research firm The NPD Group.
The open-ended survey polled 2,095 US kids on what they consider to be the hottest new thing today – whether it be a celebrity, movie, TV show, toy, game, hobby, sport, website, brand or retail store. The Canadian pop star tops the list at 10% followed by Nintendo Wii, Dora The Explorer, Xbox 360, Cars: The Movie/Cars 2 and the iPad, all of which garnered 2% of the youth vote.
Bieber remained at the top of the list in this follow-up to the company’s original survey conducted in February 2011 in which he captured 14% of total mentions followed by Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii at 4% each.
The NPD Kids Industry Data Service provides monthly insight into purchases made on behalf of kids ages 0 to 14 across product categories with an emphasis on licenses and brands. Each month, the firm asks an open-ended unaided question designed to provide insight into what is top-of-mind with kids today.
