Sesame Workshop, the organization behind Sesame Street, is promoting healthy habits across India, Mexico and Brazil through a new grant from the MetLife Foundation.
The campaign, which promotes basic health habits like brushing teeth and washing hands, will reach children through local co-productions.
In India, Galli Galli Sim Sim will broadcast Healthy Habits for Life episodes and feature a special animated message from MetLife Foundation, on POGO and Cartoon Network. Sesame Workshop will also be launching a new Mobile Phone Classroom Outreach Pilot, which will take place in 150 Anganwadi centers and provide each government-run preschool center worker with a mobile phone pre-loaded with Galli Galli Sim Sim health content.
In Mexico, MetLife’s animated message will run around episodes of Plaza Sésamo and Elmo’s World on Televisa. In addition, 20,000 educational health outreach kits will be distributed to targeted populations across the region. Community health events will also be organized.
In Brazil, meanwhile, messages will run in episodes of Vila Sésamo on TV Cultura. Twenty thousand sets of educational health outreach materials, featuring a book, game and training poster, will be distributed in Sao Paulo.
Millions of preschool-aged children in India and Mexico have already been reached by the MetLife-Sesame Workshop campaign over the past three years. This year marks the initiative’s first move into Brazil.
