In a partnership between Nickelodeon and Mexican multimedia company Televisa, the two companies have ordered 80 episodes of a new series based on an original one-hour US adaptation of the Mexican telenovela, Reach for a Star (Alcanzar una Estrella), to air later this year on Nick at Nite targeted to the family audience.

Reach for a Star, which is the first telenovela ever adapted for the US audience, follows a teenage girl, Loren, whose life changes when she becomes a star and wins the love of her teen idol, Eddie Wild.

Sony Pictures Television is on board as a producer and production on Reach for a Star begins in March in Los Angeles.

The original Mexican telenovela was first broadcast on Canal de las Estrellas and Univision in 1990. Its success led to a film and sequel telenovela starring Latin American pop stars, Ricky Martin and Sasha Sokol.
