Hasbro partners with Zynga

In efforts to capitalize on the rise of social media games after experiencing a 7% fourth quarter drop in games and puzzle sales, Hasbro (Scrabble, Monoploy) has acquired the rights to develop a range of toys and games based on social games and brands from San Francisco-based social gaming company Zynga (Farmville, Cityville, Words with Friends).

In efforts to capitalize on the rise of social media games, after experiencing a 7% fourth quarter drop in games and puzzle sales, Hasbro (Scrabble, Monoploy) has acquired the rights to develop a range of toys and games based on social games and brands from San Francisco-based social gaming company Zynga (Farmville, Cityville, Words with Friends).

Words with Friends, a Scrabble knockoff, currently has 13 million active monthly users on Facebook.  The initial toy line should be available this fall.
