Penguin Children’s Books has acquired the worldwide publishing rights in all languages for Whale Trail, a kid-friendly game app from digital design studio ustwo that’s currently available at Apple’s App Store.

Penguin will create broader stories based on the game for books with a digital picture book to launch in October 2012 and additional physical and digital books to launch in 2013.

Whale Trail is a flying-based game that allows players to control main character Willow the Whale through a rainbow world in the sky while avoiding angry clouds (not birds) and the evil Baron von Barry.

The new deal continues Penguin’s current penchant for picking up licenses to hot digital properties (Club Penguin, Moshi Monsters, Skylanders) and extending their storyworlds.
